Shad's family was presented a certificate from the state of Kentucky stating that they were 1 of 7 families to continually own the same land for so long.
Drop Tine & Spurs Outfitters is a family business. It is owned and managed by long-time friends, Shad Futrell and Eddie Layton. Shad & Eddie grew up in Western Kentucky and Trigg County, and have been hunting on this land since they were kids. Combined, they have over 30 years of experience hunting on this property.
As the only owners ever, Shad's family has held the DTS property since
1794. They are one of only seven families in the state of
Kentucky that has continually held land in the same family for that
amount of time. His granddaddy, Billy Ray, and dad, David still
live on the property, although Shad chose to build his home on top
of a hill overlooking these hills and hollows where he grew up.
He has pictures of himself as a youth with trophy deer on this
very property.
Shad is self-employed as a sheet rock hanger and father to a school-aged son. Though he loves to work outdoors on the farm, his main passion is coon hunting.
Eddie's
dad, Glenn, was born and raised around the Land Between the
Lakes.
(Although, the lakes were not there when Glenn was young.)
He lived his adult life in Trigg County, and taught Eddie the
land and how to hunt. In fact, Glenn took Shad and
Eddie
raccoon hunting when they were teenagers. When his father
passed
away in 2006, Eddie bought his place. Shad and Eddie combined
their properties to open the Drop Tine & Spurs hunting lodge.
Eddie and his wife, Suzanne, live in Hopkinsville, KY. They have a school-aged daughter and a grown son. He is co-owner of D&E Lawn Specialists.
