Safety Matters

We are very serious about the safety of our hunters.  Therefore, these rules are non-negotiable.  If they seem onerous to you, do not schedule a hunting trip with Drop Tine & Spurs.  Upon arrival all clients will be asked to sign a release of liability waiver, as well as an agreement to obey all the rules.

Policies

Of course hunting is, by nature, a very dangerous undertaking.
Therefore we have very strict policies that must be followed at all times.  We have borrowed the categories for these guidelines from the NRA Hunter's Code of Ethics

Land Usage

I will consider myself an invited guest of the landowner, seeking his permission, and so conducting myself that I may be welcome in the future.

This is the easiest policy to follow.  As a client of Drop Tine & Spurs Outfitters you have our permission to hunt in the designated areas.  However, it is important, for the safety of all our hunters, that hunters remain in the areas to which they are assigned.  Safety belts must be worn in all hunting stands at all times

Gun Safety

I will obey the rules of safe gun handling and will courteously but firmly insist that others who hunt with me do the same.

Gun safety is paramount.  Therefore guns must remain unloaded except when hunting.  There are to be no loaded guns in the lodges, on the ATVs, or any method of transportation at any time.

Laws & Regulations

I will obey all game laws and regulations, and will insist that my companions do likewise.

All hunters must follow ALL applicable hunting laws.  This means that you must have a valid Kentucky Hunting License, as well as any tags, permits, or stickers necessary for the type of hunting you plan to do.

Hunter's Safety Orange must be worn at all times while deer hunting .

Marksmanship

I will do my best to acquire those marksmanship and hunting skills which insure clean, sportsmanlike kills.

We do not appreciate wounded animals, and we don't want to chase down an injured deer any more than you do.  Please make sure guns, bows , and crossbows are properly sighted before you arrive.

Conservation

I will support conservation efforts, which can assure good hunting for the future generations of Americans.

In the case of Drop Tine & Spurs property this means harvest limits to assure hunting remains strong.  The following limits apply.

- If  taken with a gun, (muzzle loader or modern) all bucks must score at least 140.

- If taken with a bow, all bucks must score at least 125.

- If taken during a youth hunt, all bucks must score at least 125.

- Substantial financial penalties will be incurred for harvesting undersized bucks regardless of method.

Sportsmanship

I will pass along to younger hunters the attitudes and skills essential to a true outdoor sportsman.

We encourage youth participation.  Kentucky's youth-only firearm weekend is Oct 11-12 2008.  The free youth weekend* is Dec 27-28, 2008.

We expect all of our hunters to follow the rules laid out.  Failure to do so will result in a termination of the hunt without refund.

*Free youth weekend means that hunters 15 and under may hunt without a license or deer tags
